People didn’t understand. Some looked at me like I was growing a third eyeball. Why would I leave a steady-paying job for the uncertainty of entrepreneurship?
Well, I spent almost 5 years in Corporate America. For my last 2 years in that job, I was unfulfilled. There was no upward mobility, a hold on salary increases and a lack of vision. I was on a search for change.
My answer came while I was at a Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce event. You can read about that interaction and discovery in my story here.
What allowed me to leave my job, was the fact that I jumped into this endeavor. I didn’t just stick in my toe and “test the waters”, which seems to be what many people do…and then they’re disappointed when their new venture isn’t going so well. You’ve heard the saying, right? “Do or do not. There is no try.”
When you capture the vision of a movement that is changing peoples’ lives in a variety of ways, nothing can stop you. People will tell you you’re crazy. Don’t listen to them. Just listen to that little bird on your shoulder who’s whistling away about how you can do anything to which you fix your mind.
What are you passionate about? How is your project changing peoples’ lives? What makes you jump out of bed in the morning? I’d love to hear about it!
