How to effortlessly “read” more books for free

read-free-booksI LOVE reading. I could spend countless hours browsing and invest LOTS of money on amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble adding new books to my success library.

If you study successful people, reading is one of their routine habits. For many of us, reading tends to get put on the back burner when it comes to daily routine, however, something I recently discovered has given me a leg up in this area and I hope it will do the same for you…library audiobooks!

I’ve been “checking out” digital books through our local library to read via the Kindle app on my iPad for the last several years using a smartphone app called OverDrive. I LOVE that we can do this! Little did I realize, however, that you can also do the same with audiobooks through this app. It works very similar to the Kindle download, only these are audio files that are temporarily downloaded to your smartphone or tablet that you can listen to anywhere!

Let’s face it, our phones/tablets go with us everywhere. I often find myself in the car, getting ready in the morning, washing dishes, etc…not wanting to listen to the television or radio for background noise…so the audiobooks are a perfect solution!

A sampling of I’ve listened to so far includes…

Same Kind of Different As Me  by Ron Hall and Denver Moore
I Know How She Does It by Laura Vanderkam
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Café by Fannie Flagg
I Still Dream About You by Fannie Flagg
The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanlely
Coming Home to Myself by Wynonna Judd
The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg
You Can, You Will by Joel Osteen

Can you tell I like Fannie Flagg? 🙂 I have about 90 books on my wish list that are available to download…it’s an assortment of fiction, biographies, inspirational, and business. I can hardly wait to get through them all.

If you’re struggling to find time to read like I was, I highly encourage you to talk with your local library or visit their website to see if they offer digital audio book solutions. They very likely do. The setup process was simple. All you need is your library card number and the Overdrive Media Console app. (Your library may use a different service.) The Overdrive app is available for free in the iTunes store.

Have you used this app before? Listened to any great audio books? I’d love to know your suggestions!

  1. Hooray! I am such a big fan of Overdrive. I have downloaded both audiobooks and Kindle eBooks through Overdrive. I’ve used it on the go (phone) but also at home on my computer (audiobooks while working). BTW I am a Fannie Flagg fan too!

  2. This is awesome. I never have time to read for leisure, but when I do it would be great to be able to check out a book from my ipad, I have to keep this in mind!!

  3. I need to try this. I’ve always loved reading, but I find myself so focused on everything I need to get done I just can’t dive into books like I used to.
